With their fifth release, the mojo of this fascinating Brit duo-plus proves remarkably durable as do their skills of assimilation.  The spell-casting nature of Beth Packer’s vocal phrasing and the enlisting of blues, jazz and country sounds into the service of their intoxicating minimalist alchemy sound as inspired as ever.  The signature “noir” touches are present in tracks such as “Morphine” and “Paris Is Burning” while variations in mood appear in the leadoff track “Volcano” and the charming closer “Carnaby Street”.  Ms. Packer’s lyric sets are journeys of their own and attention-grabbing throughout this superlative set.  Worth your time.
