The bare-bones production of pianist Veronica Lewis’ debut release lends an intriguing intimacy to what’s typically a gregarious, extroverted realm of musical space.  Not to short-sell the rockin’ pulse of the NOLA-flavored title track or any of the rough-and-ready boogie that populates these grooves but the minimal accompaniment keeps things emotionally close to home- she sounds as likely to be singing and playing for her own self as for the listener.  This culminates in a set-stealing take on Louis Jordan’s “Is You Is My Baby”.  Other tracks of note include Katie Webster’s “Whoo Whee Sweet Daddy” and Ms. Lewis’ own “Put Your Wig On Mama”.  Good stuff.
