Guitarist/composer Carles Gutiérrez’s first solo album is the culmination of a deep need to present authentic jazz, pop, Mediterranean music and dance music. The singing addresses various topics while the instrumental accompaniment is also colored with masterful guitar, saxophone and trumpet. With both intimacy and complexity, Carles Gutiérrez’s compositional and performance skills especially shine on selections like Nadia, Montargil, Terra, Tot És Ara and No Gravity. “No Todo Fue Para Nada (Not Everything Was for Nothing)” is an interesting track that conveys much imagery and considerable emotion. He plays both acoustic and electric guitar, and his arrangements of “Un Trosset de Cel” and “Hymne a l'Amour” are also standout tracks.

The Barcelona-based guitarist started as a self-taught musician until he obtained a jazz guitar degree from the Conservatori del Liceu. With both traditional and contemporary sensibilities, Carles Gutiérrez has explored many musical styles including flamenco, Brazilian, Cuban, rock and punk. He performs with a number of groups, tours widely to several other European countries, teaches Jazz Manouche guitar, and writes for theater, advertising commercials and other productions. Gutiérrez plays more than 100 concerts a year and is at one of his most active, creative moments of his musical career. (Joe Ross, Roots Music Report)
