Guitarist Luther Dickinson, possessed of one of the more enviable Southern blues/rock pedigrees and resumes, fashions his Hill Country roots into a particularly personal statement, made all the more distinctive for its diverse and decidedly tuneful character. Intimate both in content and atmosphere, this predominantly acoustic affair is well stocked with ear-catching melodies, enhanced further by Dickinson’s partiality here for duo vocals with various female partners- the pick of these being his pairing with guest Mavis Staples, “Ain’t No Grave”.  Many good choices here including “Let It Roll”, “Moonshine”, “Highwater”, “Storm” and “Devilment”.
