While “concept album” might be too irresistible a term to avoid, Robbie Fulks’ new offering is strong enough in heart and hindsight to overcome such a burdensome tag.  Centered on the reflections of a cast of aging Everymen, running the emotional spectrum from sweet to bitter and back again, Mr. Fulks’ breathes highly believable life into his protagonists’ tales.  The first-rate Appalachian instrumental play provides this exceptional work ideal enhancement.  Standout samples of this powerful set include “Never Come Home”, “Needed” and “Sarah Jane”.
