Whether they meant to or not, The Ghost Town Blues Band has fashioned a sound that evokes that of the progressive “horn bands” that proliferated in the 70’s as much as it draws on traditional soul and blues roots.  The smart horn charts that enhance band songwriters Matt Isbell and Taylor Orr’s originals conjure the work of sharp outfits past such as Lighthouse, Ten Wheel Drive and The Ides of March.  Suavo Jones’ trombone feature on “Givin’ it all Away” is a particular delight and Mr. Isbell is precisely the sort of powerful vocalist to take on a crew this strong.  Other tracks of note include “Running Out of Time”, “My Father's Son” and the title track.
