A defining voice of her time, Diane “Deedles” Schuur has kept us waiting for six years since her last album (“I Remember You: With Love to Stan and Frank” on the Jazzheads label). The Tacoma-born vocalist has been in the national spotlight since the mid-80s and has built a large fanbase for her gorgeous voice and eclectic repertoire of jazz, blues, pop and contemporary material. For the first time in her recording career, she selected all the songs for this album, with a goal of “focusing on the condition of our world, about what is, about what can be.” They songs range from Percy Mayfield’s title track to Miles Davis’ “All Blues,” Lennon & McCartney’s “Let it Be” to Carole King’s “Way Over Yonder.” Schuur makes statements about the planet’s social inequality and unrest, yet she also leaves us with seeds of joy and optimism. Songs like “The Sun Will Shine on You” and “There is Always One More Time” allow her to impressively reinforce the mantra. Along with Schuur’s scat, the band displays their instrumental chops on a grooving jazz funk offering of “Chicken.” Musicians include Diane Schuur (vocals, piano), Ernie Watts (saxophone), Kye Palmer (trumpet, flugelhorn), Thom Rotella (guitar), Bruce Lett (bass) and Kendall Kay (drums).  This generous 67-minute album features powerful players and an enchanting repertoire. Unlike her previous recordings, Schuur plays piano throughout the program, and she closes with an introspective solo instrumental version of “Swing Low Sweet Chariot.” (Joe Ross, Roots Music Report)
