About the Album
Mad Dog Blues Announces New Album, All the Way
Release Date: August 16, 2024
Lafayette, CO — Mad Dog Blues, known for their passionate performances and harmonica-driven string band sound, is thrilled to announce the release of their eighth album, All the Way. Recorded “live in the studio,” this album showcases lush and powerful songwriting inspired by the American musical stylings of the last 100 years.
Band Members:
- Mad Dog Friedman (harmonica)
- Jeff Becker (mandolin)
- Clark Chanslor (bass)
- Sean Bennight (guitar)
- Mark Kaczorowski (guitar)
Mad Dog Blues collaborates with local artists El Rice, Bruce Delaplain, Jenn Cleary, Big Willy Palmer, Josh Elioseff and Lonesome Rolan. Additionally, Joe Waters from Dayton, Ohio, lends his talents to this remarkable project.
The album cover art for All the Way features a cabin at the end of the road with a blue mailbox, evoking memories of Taj Mahal’s classic “Mailbox Blues.” Like Taj, Mad Dog Blues defies genre labels, embracing stylistic diversity in contemporary, root-based music. Their two 2023 releases, The Mad Dog Blues Duo LIVE at the End (August 26, 2023) and River City Roots (April 23, 2023), soared to #2 and #3, respectively, on the Roots Music Reports global Top 50 Acoustic Blues Album Chart. With this new recording, they aim to go All the Way.
Highlights of All the Way:
- Nine original songs, beautifully crafted and soulfully rendered.
- Four unique instrumentals, showcasing the virtuosity of the band and some of the guest artists.
- A harmonica-only tribute to the late Phil Wiggins, a revered country blues harp player.
- An extended jaw harp solo by Joe Waters, winner of the 2024 International Blues Challenge (Solo/Duo category).
The album’s closing tracks transport listeners to the heyday of “jug band music.” Drawing inspiration from the 1920s Memphis Jug Band and the 1960s Jim Kweskin’s Jug Band, Mad Dog Blues delivers a delightful finale. The whimsical “Krazed Kazoo Choir” features all band members kazooing, along with Clark Chanslor on slide whistle, Mark Kaczorowski on guitar, Joe Waters on the jaw harp and Lonesome Rolan on piano. Kazoo ringers Big Willy Palmer, Jenn Cleary, and El Rice add the perfect touch to this joyful musical confection.
