About the Album

Selected by the Houston Blues Society as their Best Self-Produced CD of 2024, "A Sinner's Prayer" is the debut album from Texas based musician, artist, and educator Mark "Nessie" Nesmith. While the songs were a lifetime in the making, “A Sinner’s Prayer” was recorded over just a few days with Mark's son Benton Nesmith managing the recording and mixing tasks. Mark wrote all the songs and played all the instruments on the CD. From acoustic and electric guitars, electric and upright bass, drums, percussion, and even harmonica, Mark fuses influences from Delta, Chicago, and Texas blues legends into a wide ranging, eclectic album of songs rooted in his own life experiences. Three tracks also feature beautiful backing vocals by fellow SETX musician Rainy Kimbrough. At times raw and edgy, at other times sweet and contemplative, "A Sinner's Prayer" is a blues diary of real life and a homegrown labor of love.
