For fans of Beirut, Joni Mitchell, Tori Amos, Regina Spektor and Keren Ann. The lush bucolic folk of ‘Season to Season’ is the first single to be taken from Israeli artist Dekel’s third album Starlings (out 25th October) and explores the rebirth that occurs with each passing season. The rich and hypnotic accordion-led sound flows with a subtle melancholy, reflecting the pain of such a necessary metamorphosis. The song is accompanied by a charming, animated video by Qianwen Yu depicting the journey from darkness to light.

“In every season I take layers off myself that don’t serve me anymore, layers that are too heavy to carry, and layers that I must take off if I want to develop and thrive. This is how you grow. I hope in time the process is more sweet than painful.” - Dekel

Dekel once described her music as akin to “A very big hot soup. Everything that I have, I put in a great big pot and cook it.” A cultural smorgasbord which encompasses a rich accordion sound, an abundance of traditional Eastern European sounding music Jewish Ashkenazi melodies, some folk roots (“without sounding folkish” she emphasis’s), and a lush, layered and warm indie-folk sound but without being “too indie”.

Dekel lives between London and Tel Aviv, Starlings is her third album following Hello (2018) and Desert Moon (2023). On Starlings she also taps into her Jewish spiritual world creating something lush and earthy, complimented by production from Grammy and Mercury award winner Jonathan Quarmby who helped create a more acoustic and organic sound. Alongside a perfect balance of Eastern European vibrancy and a rich velvety softness, with enlightening lyrical themes that express the philosophies Dekel lives her life by. The result is an utterly charming and intoxicating flow of world sounds, emotions, and energies, from the softly melancholic to the full bodied and buoyant, enthralling the listener from start to end.
