Rebel Records is thrilled to announce the release of Little Songs, the debut album from Rrinaco (pronounced REE-nuh-koh). Rrinaco is the imaginative and personal musical outlet for fiddler and singer Corrina Rose Logston Stephens, best known for her work in the traditional bluegrass band High Fidelity. Working for years to find a home for the genre-blending songs in her head, Stephens created Rrinaco—a name drawn from a childhood nickname among close artist friends.
Rrinaco is all about letting the art take center stage, giving Stephens the freedom to explore and express herself in whatever way feels right. The delivery of these "little songs" is very folk-centric, honest and conversational, with none of the instrumentation straying too far from the bluegrass fold. “I hear things through the instruments I grew up with and am familiar with,” shares Stephens. “Most of it feels close to bluegrass, but sometimes there’s a hollow body electric guitar. If Charlie Monroe did it, I think it’s got some roots to it!”
The original recording of Little Songs took place between 2015 and 2019, captured in classic Stephens fashion—entirely live, with minimal isolation. For the album, Stephens is supported by her husband Jeremy Stephens who plays electric and acoustic guitar and provides backing vocals on select tracks, as well as a number of friends: Casey Campbell on mandolin, P.J. George on upright bass and piano, Kevin Buchanan on percussion and Doug Jernigan contributing pedal steel guitar on the closing number, "Not That Bad." Shelved during the pandemic, the project found new life in 2023 when Stephens and Rebel Records' Mark Freeman started discussing the possibility of its release. Remixed and mastered with a seasoned and more decisive perspective on the music, the final album was born.
Featuring simple yet strong melodies, realistic lyrics that somehow flow like nursery rhymes, and subject matter that spans the divine to the ridiculous, no life happenings are off the hook on Little Songs. “When I’m dealing with anything, I’m usually singing about it. That’s probably how I get songs about gaslighting ("Get Along Somehow"), cluttered desks, ("Enough of This Way"), awkward social situations ("Elephant In the Room"), and tinnitus ("Mouse Inside”), Stephens reflects. “But the spiritual songs ("The Veil Has Been Lifted," "Two or More," and "Abide With Me" are my favorites. They are special, and they all tend to have special stories or special inspiration that comes from outside of myself — they are the real impetus for me to want to bring this music to people.” The album closes with “Not That Bad,” which offers perspective and encouragement, rounding out a record that balances introspection, humor, spirituality, and healing.
Little Songs marks a bold new chapter for Corrina Rose Logston Stephens, offering a deeply personal and creatively expansive sound under the name Rrinaco. With this debut, she explores a space where genre lines blur and artistic freedom takes center stage.
