About the Band
A‘ea‘e is a contemporary Hawaiian country music group composed of Jeff Dayton, Keola Donaghy, Tarvin Makia, Māpuana Makia, and Kenneth Makuakāne. The group was established in 2022, and released its debut recording on December 30, 2022. A‘ea‘e is a finalist in four categories for the 46th Annual Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards to be held on July 1, 2023 at the Hawaii Theatre.
Their debut eponymous recording includes four mele (songs) in the Hawaiian language and one in English, Jeff Dayton’s composition "When The Ocean Sleeps." The Hawaiian songs include a Hawaiian translation of "Tennessee Whiskey" (approved by the composer, Dean Dillon) and other songs composed by Donaghy and Makuakāne.
