Planet Full Of Blues - is a modern electric blues band based on the southeast coast of Virginia. Planet Full Of Blues was formed in 2008 by founding members Johnny Ray Light and Brock Howe (2008-2015). Although the band has performed regularly as a 5-piece band to include a horn section, the band’s current lineup includes core members Johnny Ray Light (guitar, vocals, and songwriting), Scott Ambrose (drums, and vocals), and newest member, Jack Russel (bass and vocals). The name for the band is actually the title track of their successful self-titled debut album. The debut album featured 11 all original tracks written by Light. In fact, the title track off of the Virginia based power trio’s first release was listed on the national Roots Music Report—Roots Blues chart as one of the top 50 blues songs in the nation for 36 weeks throughout 2008—2009.
Additionally, the band’s first album received strong international airplay as well, resulting in multiple offers to perform overseas. In June 2009, the band performed as a co-headliner at the Blues Stock Blues Festival in Belgrade, Serbia. Recently, Planet Full Of Blues worked with multi-Grammy award winning producer/engineer Jim Gaines to produce their latest studio album called “Hard Landing.” Like their debut release, Hard Landing features 11 all original tracks written by Light and Howe. Since the release of “Hard Landing” in May 2014, cuts from the new album have received significant airplay around the world. In fact, two cuts from Hard Landing have once again made the national Roots Music Report, as well as the Hit Tracks Top 100 list.
In 2014, the band raised the bar with their new album, Hard Landing, by en-listing multi-Grammy award winning producer/engineer Jim Gaines. Gaines’ artful influence is felt throughout the 11 original tracks bringing out the best of the band’s unique blend of guitar-driven blues-rock. Simply put, Gaines did an amazing job at capturing and conveying the emotion that was experienced during the Hard Landing sessions. Similar to the band's first release, Hard Landing received significant world-wide airplay, resulting in two cuts off of the album making the national Roots Music Report - Roots Blues Chart top 50 list.
