New Blues Rock Artist Brad Dubay Launches Debut Album

Blues-rock artist Brad Dubay has released Planet 9, his debut album of powerful originals bridging electric blues, soaring instrumentals and old school rock and roll. Recorded in Boston, mixed and mastered in Nashville, the record is destined to open a new course in what current music fans are longing for. Brad has brought old-school blues-rock to a new era, a new sound, and a new energy.

Planet 9 is about bringing the blues of the late 60s and early 70s back to life in its most authentic form,” says Brad Dubay. “It takes us on a journey of the sounds that made that era so special. The album then places that journey into new orbits of new music that is unique to itself.”

From heavy, riff-driven rock to slow-burning blues, Planet 9 dives deep into themes of the electric blues era. At 24, Brad Dubay is a masterful guitarist and musician. The album’s work is both nostalgic and fresh - drawing inspiration from legends including The Allman Brothers Band, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac, and others. Most importantly, Dubay is creating his very own identity to bring back that missing excitement.

Brad’s band brings the highest caliber of musicianship to his new work. A true Hammond master, Max Chase adds rich texture and emotion to every track. His playing moves seamlessly from subtle soul to roaring energy, lifting their sound into another dimension. Caleb Dyer’s soulful basslines ground every song with groove and feel. His tone and timing give the music its heartbeat - steady, warm, melodic, and powerful. Precision and fire is brought to the record by drummer Mike Walsh. His dynamic drumming drives the band from tight shuffle to thunderous crescendos - always serving the song with power and finesse.

Recorded at Mystic Valley Studio in Boston and mixed/mastered at Welcome To 1979 in Nashville, Planet 9 showcases Brad Dubay at his finest. The double album is now streaming on all platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, and YouTube, with physical CD and special-edition vinyl copies available. The vinyl album master disks were cut at Welcome To 1979, completing a true full analog process throughout. “Going full analog, with absolutely no digital manipulation, brings out a unique and special sound,” says Brad Dubay. You can certainly feel it. Even the light touches of reverb were done with vintage physical plate and spring system units in the studios. No pedals on the guitar work enlightens players and listeners alike as a reminder of how it used to be done, without enhancements. This plays right into the other industry hunger - that is bands playing full-on live, just as it is meant to be, with no auto-tune, enhancers, backing tracks, in-fills, cut-ins, midi, or digital enhancements that have wiped out the true experience of music.

Dubay is making his mark in true guitar blues rock mastery. Planet 9 marks his debut release of all-original work. There is a yearning in the music world for new talent, new songwriting, and new styles - all in true unfiltered form, the ability to go full-on live, and stir the feelings of a generation that hasn’t been stirred in this way before. He brings new music that speaks for itself. Brad’s got “that” special look and special sound that is unrelentingly attractive, is gentle yet wild, coming from spiritual and physical strength, and peaceful understanding. He and his music exude all of that, and with Planet 9 he’s sharing it with the world.

Brad’s songwriting, vocals, and guitar work carry forth a new fresh generation of rock and blues - it’s captivating for the young, and bittersweet for those who remember. Bringing these fans together is a truly exciting part of his music.

Brad Dubay - Planet 9  Liner Notes

Twelve phenomenal new blues-rock songs are featured on Brad Dubay’s debut album Planet 9. The album opens with River Festival, a flowing instrumental that invokes the feeling of being free just like at a music festival. It takes us on a journey of Brad’s winding guitar harmonies mixed with lush Hammond organ by Max Chase, reminiscent of The Allman Brothers Band, playing with dynamics that change as rapidly as riding on a river. The band then directly launches into You Did It To Yourself, a slow blues that builds and comes to a climax with Brad’s guitar wailing and stinging with his unmistakable vibrato. The Traveler starts with a riff that is pure classic rock, a sound that makes you want to turn it up all the way, put the pedal to the medal and go flying down the highway. Cannonball, a tribute to Freddie King, follows the blueprint of his classic instrumentals that hook you right in with their prominent lead lines. Halfway through the song, Mike Walsh takes a fantastic breakout drum solo followed by Caleb Dyer layin’ it down on the  bass, the rhythm section having the spotlight all to themselves, ending with the entire band coming in for a huge explosion. After a section of loud and fast playing, In Love With You slows things down. A melodic ballad with chord changes and vocal harmonies like a Beatles love song. The listener is directly catapulted back into rock and roll as On The Road plays next. The lyrics tell of a lifestyle of traveling from town to town, experiencing everything that the world has to offer. Don’t Want No Doctor carries a straight up blues rhumba, with Brad’s blues singing in full form, then transitions into a powerful swing. With its whimsical tempo, Heavenly Paradise brings the innocent and carefree feeling of childhood to life, just like the breeze on a hot summer day. Choose Love jumps into the style of a 60’s groove with extended solos by both Brad and Max. Kicking off with a Texas shuffle, If You Wanna Be Mine is a classic driving blues that makes one want to get up and boogie. I’ve Been Your Fool could have most certainly been done by the original Fleetwood Mac. A haunting blues played with pure intensity and anger; the guitar screams like it is going to give at any moment. The album concludes with Nebula, launching the listener directly into orbit with its ethereal otherworldly tone, then cascading into many colors like a supernova. Planet 9 is sure to transport anyone into outer space and take them to places they never knew existed - but feel like they have been before.
