About the Band
Jaq Mackenzie is quite an accomplished young lady. She holds a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, is a musician, a singer/songwriter and an actress. Jaq is a freshman, attends LACHSA (Los Angeles County High School for the Arts) and is in the vocal music program
To date, Jaq’s Film amd TV credits include: A national MILK commercial where they feature her as the lead singer of a Garage band, a national Domino’s commercial, a regional Toyota RAV4 commercial, the kids version of the Halloween DISNEYLAND theme park jingle, an episode of HOUSE MD, the Sea World panoramic film which shows before the Shamu Show in Orlando FL, San Antonio, TX and San Diego. Jaq also plays the role of Kate, David Arquette’s daughter, in the film "Black Limousine" released to video/dvd in July 2012 by STARZ/Cineville.
Jaq is currently in an ongoing, 3 way co-writing/recording/co-producing project with Emmy winning composer and producer Ric Markmann (bass player for Heart, Chris Cornell) at his facility, Matter Music. Some of those songs: Somethin’ ‘Bout You, Daydreams and End Of A New Beginning are available worldwide on iTunes. All of those tracks currently get airplay worldwide on an array of internet and terrestrial radio stations as well as 2 covers: Suzanne Vega’s LUKA and Bob Dylan’s ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER which were recorded and produced by: Liane Curtis.
Jaq happens to be part Chinese, Russian and French. This makes her marketable worldwide and an international artist by virtue of her gene pool. She spoke and was spoken to in French as a toddler and attended French schools through 2nd grade and can still understand. Jaq has incorporated French into her song, Somethin’ ‘Bout You. Recently Jaq participated in a show called American Stars which airs on a privately owned Mandarin network, www.ICNTV.net. Jaq translated, added and sang a line in Mandarin to accommodate her new audience. Jaq has now won both the weekly and monthly rounds and landed in the top 3. Jaq took 2nd place on 1/182014 at the New Year Gala being held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel which was televised and a live broadcast into several million Chinese and Chinese American homes.
Jaq's love of music was evident at 6 months of age. She bobbed her head in perfect meter and by 9 months of age, was chiming in on "Whole Lotta Love". She began composing songs @ 10. Jaq’s inaugural show was on February 12, 2011. Jaq was invited to play @ the Centennial of Naval Aviation kick-off event at the Naval Air base (NASNI) North Island. Since that, Jaq has been performing local venues: Room 5, Genghis Cohen, Witzend, Hard Rock Café, NOLA’s LA, Rusty’s Surf Ranch, The Un-Urban Café & more. Jaq plays shows and events 2 – 3 times a month, while juggling a full school schedule, last minute auditions & writing/recording.
Jaq loves to give. In September of 2012, Jaq was flown to NY and while there, played a private event for THE PABLOVE FOUNDATION www.pablove.org , an organization started by ELEKTRA President, Jeff Castelaz and his wife Jo Ann Thrailkill after their son Pablo lost his life to cancer. Jaq has also performed for many other worthy organizations in the past two years. Jaq was invited to speak about keeping music in schools and played at an SMMUSD fundraiser back at her old elementary school Will Rogers Learning Community in Santa Monica where Ms. Mackenzie also made a donation.
Jaq is the daughter of actress/songwriter/producer, Liane Curtis (16 Candles, Benny n Joon, Girlfriend From Hell) and businessman Timothy Mackenzie. Jaq is the granddaughter of Jack Curtis (Speed Racer, The Flesheaters), and of jazz composer, Paulette Girard, who wrote for Carmen McRae, Coltrane, Bill Evans, The Four Most, Django Reinhardt and more. This makes Jaq 5th gen entertainer and 3rd gen composer. Miss Mackenzie’s family’s involvement in show business dates back to the late 1800s. Her family has been successful in the industry for over a century.
