Although he tragically left the planet in 2013, Peter Banks will always be remembered as the founding guitarist in the band YES and his spirit and legacy of vital prog-rock contributions can be heard on the 2020 CD release of Crossover. An album featuring Pete’s electric guitar skills and violinist and composer David Cross, the eight cut CD also features additional contributions, added later in post-production, by a range of YES-related musicians, including Billy Sherwood, Tony Kaye, Geoff Downs, Jeremy Stacey, Oliver Wakeman, and other esteemed players. All-instrumental in scope, and highly listenable, Crossover merges elements of instrumental progressive rock and jazz-rock fusion with skill and ease. Speaking about the unique nature of music recorded in 2010 and then remixed and completed with added musicians in 2018 and 2019, David Cross says, “When I recall the original recording session with Pete I remember his fresh almost naïve approach, his positive energy and his constant and restless search for something new. It was a joy to know Pete Banks and an honor and a privilege to play with him…I think he would be pleased with the way our album turned out.” Enhanced by eye-catching artwork and informative liner notes by David Cross, as well as fine post-production work by Tony Lowe (bass, keys, string arrangements), Crossover captures some intriguing guitar sounds on what turned out to be the final recorded work featuring the late, great Peter Banks.
