A noteworthy songwriter and classy vocalist in one dynamite package, Paulette McWilliams is making waves in the music world with her 2020 album entitled A Woman’s Story. Paulette's 12-track, 60-minute album, released in 2020 on the Blujazz label, A Woman’s Story finds the singer elevating the mood with a soulful take on music classics from songwriting legends like Marvin Gaye, Janis Ian, Stephen Bishop, Luther Vandross, Donny Hathaway, Kenny Rankin and Joni Mitchell. A Woman’s Story album also features several of Paulette’s own compositions, reflecting her long-standing connection to the Chicago blues scene. This meeting of musical genres spotlights Ms. McWilliams backed by some of the best session musicians and backing vocalists recording today. With her new album including fresh interpretations of classic music, Ms. McWilliams confirms her respect for the songwriter legends she covers while the CD booklet also features all the album's song lyrics. Recorded in Southern California and produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Kamau Kenyatta, with horn arrangements by Etienne Charles, A Woman’s Story is an entertaining cross-section of 21st Century R&B pop and upbeat, soulful jazz.
