Switzerland-based guitarist composer Roland Bühlmann released his acclaimed album Bailenas in 2018 and his album from late 2020, Dubnos is very much worth hearing. Influenced by Robert Fripp and King Crimson, Roland writes all-instrumental music that mixes jazz, rock fusion and minimalist techno electronic music. King Crimson legend David Cross (violin) appears on one track here, along with a koto player on two tracks and the skillful drumming of Terl Bryant. Most tracks are well over the six minute mark and it sounds like Roland excels in this experimental free form environment. The techno-rock, big beat tracks featuring Terl’s drumming works best yet, loaded with a range of exceptional computerized synth backing, the shock value of Dubnos is never lost on the listener.
