Following the major success of 2017’s Komorebi and 2019’s In A Landscape, California Guitar Trio return in 2020 with an all-new album of guitar magic, entitled Elegy. The 14-track CD features a fresh batch of CGT originals backed up by new covers of classics written by greats like The Beatles, Radiohead, Stanley Myers and more. Covers of “Get Back” and “Cavatina” sound great as do other newly penned originals by CGT co-founders Bert Lams, Hideyo Moriya and Paul Richards. There’s even a take of the famous surf-rock instrumental classic “Diamond Head”, written by Dan Hamilton back in the 1960s. The album also features contributions from Tony Levin and fellow guitarist Fabio Mittino, who adds electric guitar as well as composing a track here. The three guitarists that comprise CGT, join forces on a track called “Gaudela Trilogy” that features three parts composed by each of the members. Bookended by CGT transcriptions of music written by Estonian composer Argo Vals, Elegy takes its place among the fascinating repertoire by California Guitar Trio.
