Florida-based Jim & The Sea Dragons carry the traditional instrumental surf-rock sound alive and well into the 2020’s with their new for 2021 album called Alinia. Track after track, the 11-cut 37 minute CD features Jim Colby backed up by Mike Jarjoura (keyboards) and Chuck Sabo (drums, percussion). Key to the album’s sound is multi-instrumentalist and composer Jim Colby, and he turns in quite a memorable performance on electric guitars, bass and bells. Comparable to the best current instrumental bands, Jim & The Sea Monsters excel in creating upbeat, easy on the ears guitar-centric music that provides a perfect setting for breezy summer sounds. Some tracks echo mid 1960's American surf-rock legends like The Ventures and John Blakeley’s band The Sandals, yet there’s also an air of individuality that sets Alinia apart from the myriad of contemporary guitar-based combos. Sure to be listed among the best instrumental surf albums of 2021, Alinia showcases a stellar performance by Jim & The Sea Dragons.
