Released on CD by Losen Records in the Scandinavian country of Norway is the 2022 release of Don’t Take It So Personally from the jazz trio known as Hüm. Centered around the power trio of Bojan Marjanovic (piano) Bjørnar Kaldefoss Tveite (upright bass) and Magnus Sefaniassen Eide (drums), the music on Don’t Take It So Personally is a masterpiece of acoustic piano-based jazz instrumentals.

Somewhat reminiscent of music from the late great pianists Lyle Mays and the still great Keith Jarrett, the sound here from Hüm is deliberate and pensive, no doubt reflecting those long, dark Nordic nights. Don’t Take It So Personally also has a clear ECM Records sound, combining Nordic jazz aesthetics with classically inspired textures and tricky time signatures. Don’t Take It So Personally is a world class acoustic jazz foray that establishes pianist / composer Bojan Marjanovic as a major talent.
