The T-Birds’ in-house songwriting team, bka frontman Kim Wilson & co-producer/guest guitarist Steve Strongman, provides plenty of solid material for this venerable outfit to churn and burn through, making for a continuously tasty and varied set. The minor-keyed mid-tempo leadoff track, “Struck Down By The Blues”, offers up the first of a slew of masterful lyric readings from Mr. Wilson.  His harmonica meshes nicely with guest Terrence Simien’s accordion on the spicy follow-up, “Don’t Make No Sense”.  A surefire airplay bet is the nasty-grooved “Payback Time” featuring guest axemeister Billy Gibbons. An appealing back porch vibe emanates from the guest-packed “Nothing In Rambling” on which Bonnie Raitt, Keb’ Mo’, Taj Mahal & Mick Fleetwood check in.  Standing out as well is “Whatcha Do To Me” on which Elvin Bishop guests and “That’s Cold”.
