A leading voice in contemporary folk and Americana music, Amy Speace has released her twelfth album, “The American Dream” with a variety of balladic, poetic and nostalgic songs that feature her clarion voice conveying messages for current and future generations. After beginning her career in New York City folk venues, Speace was discovered by Judy Collins and signed to her Wildflower Records label. Amy relocated to Nashville in 2009 and embraced the active songwriting community. Some writing collaborators on this album include Pat Pattison, Rod Picott, Neilson Hubbard, Gary Nicholson, Robby Hecht and Jon Vezner. That assortment brings considerable variety to the project, and each song has its own special groove. A few favorite tracks include the title cut, “Homecoming Queen,” “In NYC” and “Already Gone.”
Speace’s self-penned numbers include “Something “Bout a Town,” “This February Day,” “First United Methodist Day Care Show” and “Margot’s Wall.” The album closes an uplifting acoustic ballad, “Love is Gonna Come Again” written by Jaimee Harris and Graham Weber. With plenty of highly arranged instrumental accompaniment, The American Dream has a copious amount of radio-friendly folk fare. Produced by drummer Neilson Hubbard, the album also features Danny Miller’s beautiful piano work and string arrangements, as well as splendid contributions from other musicians on bass, guitars and mandolins. A very pleasant listening experience. (Joe Ross, Roots Music Report)
