Born and raised in Tennessee, Daryl Mosley is a fine bass player but he really makes his mark with his singing and songwriting. Since signing with Pinecastle Records in 2020, he has now released four album projects on that label. Already peaking at #18 on The Roots Music Report’s Top 50 Bluegrass Albums Chart, Long Days & Short Stories has 11 diverse tracks that run the gamut from bluegrass to gospel and Americana to country. Mosley surrounds himself with Danny Roberts (mandolin), Tony Wray (guitar/banjo), Jamie Harper (fiddle) and Sarah Davison (piano). Vocal harmonies are provided by Jaelee Roberts and Jeanette Williams.
As with his previous releases, IBMA Songwriter of the Year Mosley’s radio-friendly bluegrass fare has sweet, nostalgic hooks ”When the Good Old Days were New”) and spiritually-tinged gospel offerings (“I Can Pray” and “You Never Gave Up On Me”). Mosley always sings with emotion and profound sensitivity to the subject matter, as comfortable with a slower-paced “I’m Still Here” as he is with a medium-tempo’ed and swinging “A Friend Like You” or snappy “Me and Mr. Howard.” Jeff and Sheri Easter are featured on the poignant ballad, “When I Can’t Reach Up.” “Still the Solid Rock” features New Tradition (Mosley and Roberts with Richie Dotson on banjo/vocals and Ken White on guitar/vocals).
A former member of The New Tradition, Osborne Brothers, and The Farm Hands, Daryl Mosley’s solo career is being solidified with a strong repertoire, many fine bluegrass accompanists and sweet harmony vocals. Daryl’s songs come to life on Long Days & Short Stories as he pursues his goal to make sweet music that brings comfort, joy and happiness to others with its storytelling, optimism, inspiration and encouragement .
