Beaver Nelson’s observations of intimate transactions and interactions seem to come from a very solitary place.  The Austin-based singer/songwriter’s sharp-minded, heart-pierced observations are possessed of an edge that syncs well with the pop/rock ballad approach that predominates here, at times conjuring an Alex Chilton-like bite. Standouts in this very strong set include “Well, Well, Well”, “Bad Movie”, “Are You Positive” and, most certainly, “Men Without Women”.
