Whenever David Lynch has the hankering to do another music video, these offbeat Brits could be most worthy subjects.  On their third EP release, Ma Polaine’s Great Decline once again generates a dark, highly seductive atmosphere part jazz, part cabaret; the potency of which is magnified by their minimalist approach.  Stripped down on this release essentially to group principals, vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Beth Parker and guitarist/percussionist Clinton Hough, their spell-weaving begins with their signature minor-keyed alchemy on “Japanese Knotweed”.  The sad, graceful ballad that follows, “Waiting For The War”, is the more convincing thanks to Ms. Parker’s underplayed delivery.  More enchantment follows with an Ennio Morricone-esque melody, “Been Loved Too Much” and the light-hearted bluesy closer “Harvey”. MPGD is an outfit very deserving of wider attention.
