Rock-and-roll shaman Dex Romweber divvies his conjuring between signature surf –bound hoodoo and equally identifiable edgy baladeering. The latter is here expressed frequently in vocal/solo piano mode, a quirky and emotionally ambiguous cover of the standard “Smile” being the most compelling.  A good-timey cover of Ryan Bingham’s “I Don’t Know”, an exquisite surf-noir instrumental, “Nightide”, and the leadoff torcher, “I Had A Dream”, stand out as well.
