“Living Tribute” is the new release from gifted, expressive jazz guitarist and composer Larry Newcomb. He kicks things off on a more familiar note with “I Remember You” and “You’d be So Nice To Come Home To.” The lively set offers a lot of sweet variety, and Newcomb’s swinging own “Round Pond Reunion” offers much opportunity for some inspiring improvisation. Along with his band playing piano, bass and drums, Newcomb is joined on eight tracks by one of his teachers, Bucky Pizzarelli, on acoustic archtop guitar. While Newcomb’s contemporary compositions have currency, the band’s presentation also evokes a vintage, nostalgic flavor. For more rocking and bluesy southern flavor, Newcomb’s “Gold Top” builds from the head to harmony lines and improvisation that also features Eric Olsen’s piano. Leigh Jonaitas’ vocals are just the thing for a bouncy love song, “One Heart Ain’t As Great As Two,” followed by a Latin-flavored original “Love Is Here.” This charming album is a living tribute to those individuals who have positively impacted Newcomb with their musicianship, friendship and love.  (Joe Ross, Roots Music Report)
