Sarah Jane Scouten takes on the ups and downs of romantic love with a keen eye as well as a vulnerable heart. And a voice tailor-made for old-school country torch singing.  That third skill takes center stage right off with the leadoff track “Acre of Shells” and returns soon after on “Every Song I Sing” and “A Man In Love”.  The Vancouver-based singer/songwriter is just as comfy in lighter veins as on “Paul” and the precocious Western swing-flavored “Coupe de Ville Rag”.  A change-up is found in the adaptation of a classic folk protest piece, “Britannia Mine”.   Production is first-rate.
