In addition to his vivid, empathetic portraits of hard-times heartlanders (“Pickup Cowboys”, “When The Well Runs Dry”) and divergent takes on red-state romance (“Tractor Pull”, “Temporary Tatoo”) singer/songwriter Jonathan Byrd spins off images unexpectedly fanciful (“We Used To Be Birds”) and fierce (“Lakota Sioux) on a well-crafted, warm-hearted set.  “Well”, in particular, emanates a decidedly Springsteen-like air to enhance its attractiveness.
