Frank Bey’s decades-seasoned, deep baritone pipes sound firmly grounded in a time when “old school” was the new thing.  The Georgia-bred Mr. B’s knowing, vibrant vocals sync up well with a range of genres from jump blues to deep-dish country and beyond. Covers of Nightcats frontman (& this album’s co-producer) Rick Estrin’s “Calling All Fools” and “I’ll Bet I Never Cross Your Mind” make for two of this session’s standout tracks. A solid reading of the George Jones hit “He Stopped Loving Her Today” is noteworthy as is the interesting inclusion of Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day”.
