Assisted by lively, solid backup, veteran Chicago bluesman Jimmy Johnson does the Windy City proud serving up vintage guitar and vocal styles over a set that charges the old school with here-and-now energy. In addition to the leader’s tasty fretwork, keyboardists Roosevelt Purifoy and Brother John Kattke drop some solid choruses of their own. Standouts here include the B.B. King gem “I Need You So Bad”, ”My Ring” and the title track.
