Louisiana-bred vocalist Gregg Martinez does real justice to a set comprised mostly of a splendid selection of covers with a most worthy in-house companion contribution to boot.  With a rock-solid big band in tow, Mr. M. digs in deep on gems including Ray Charles’ “I Believe In My Soul”, the Freddie King-popularized “Same Old Blues” and Clarence Carter’s “Snatching It Back”.  A pair of vocal duos stand out- “Don’t Pull Your Love” with Charlene Howard and “Starting All Over Again” with guitarist Tony Goulas who also penned a show-stealing ballad here, “Just Stay Gone”. A most satisfying set.
