About the Album

Montreal blues guitarist and vocalist Kevin Mark returns to the spotlight with Lefty’s Back, a new five-track EP of hand-picked covers that captures the raw, authentic sound and spontaneous energy that have long defined his live performances.

“Goodbye Baby” kicks things off with a relentless freight-train swing groove, setting the tone from the opening notes. From there, “Farmer John” brings Kevin and pianist Big Time Lew’s harmony vocals to the forefront, before the EP’s featured radio track, “She’s Gone” turns up the heat with a blistering, emotional tribute to the late, great Nick Curran. Big Time Lew takes the lead on “Tanqueray,” showcasing his warm, velvety vocals and piano work. The EP closes with “You Were Wrong,” another hard-driving track that keeps the momentum going, leaving the listener wondering how five songs went by so quickly.

At the heart of the recording is Kevin’s veteran four-piece lineup: Big Time Lew on piano, Mike Bélanger on bass, and Francis Verdon on drums. Together, they bring decades of experience to the stage and studio, with a shared musical background steeped in blues, rock ’n’ roll and roots music.

Lefty’s Back was produced by Kevin and his longtime musical colleague Frankie Thiffault, who also appears on the EP, lending his saxophone chops to “Goodbye Baby” and “She’s Gone”.

Throughout his career, Kevin’s work has earned him numerous honours, including a Maple Blues Award, the CBC Galaxy Rising Star Award, first place in the Toronto Blues Society’s National Talent Search, and multiple Lys Blues Awards, including Male Blues Artist of the Year and four wins for Best Live Act.

As the title says, Lefty is definitely back!
