When Katie Knipp isn’t pushing her vocals into overdrive, that power and tension lie just barely beneath the surface, as if spring-loaded and ready to jump out at a second’s notice; both states laced with a near-constant, compelling quaver.  The California-based vocalist/pianist/guitarist brings these traits to covers of Justin Townes Earle’s “If I Was The Devil” and Springsteen’s “State Trooper” as well as to original standouts “I Don’t Sing For You” and “Metro In Paris”.  Backup band member Steve Utstein provides propulsive moments on the Hammond B3.
