Daniel Garbin Album: Rising Label: Self-Release Genre(s): Fusion Posted By: Robert Silverstein
Mar 14, 2025
Review
Romanian born / NYC-based multi-instrumentalist Daniel Garbin takes jazz into some interesting new territory and other far-out realms on his 2025 album Rising. Inspired in his early years by the folk music of his native Transylvania city, Garbin combines the sounds of guitars with his expert sitar playing on an album that spotlights improvisation and keen melodic insights.
Moving to the US to further his up-and-coming music career, Garbin is concurrently teaching math and computer science at the Queensborough Community College in NYC.
Musically on Rising, Garbin’s band presents an impressive lineup, including saxophonist Scott Litroff, the piano playing of Camila Cortina Bello, the fretless electric bass of Eddy Khaimovich and the seasoned timekeeping of drummer Brian Woodruff.
Centered in mainstream contemporary jazz, Rising combines
Mitch Towne Album: Refuge Label: Cross Towne Genre(s): Contemporary Jazz Posted By: Robert Silverstein

Review
Hammond B-3 organ player Mitch Towne steps out on his own with Refuge, his debut album as a band-leader. Backing Towne are guitarist Tetsuya Nishiyama and drummer Jeffery Johnson.
The interplay between these three musicians gives the album a spontaneous magic. Although the B3 organ has been featured in many different jazz trios over many years, it was also a popular sound in late 1960s progressive rock bands like Procol Harum and The Nice.
In addition, the album has a nice bass sound, even without a bass player, as Towne plays the bass parts via foot pedals attached to the Hammond. Interestingly, Towne has worked with rock legends such as Buddy Miles while also gaining standing in the jazz world via playing with top artists like guitarist Eric Gales and horn legend Tom Scott.
Featuring 7 tracks and clocking in at 44-minutes, Refuge is a good example of Towne’s
Andrew Duncanson Album: California Trap Label: Run It Back Genre(s): Contemporary Blues Posted By: Duane Verh

Review
Andrew Duncanson’s very convincing vocals are steeped in true-to-the-roots horn charts and rock-solid play overall on this most satisfying, mostly original soul and blues set. Meaty lyric sets are a big piece of the picture as well on tracks including “Relearning To Climb,”Hold Me Back” and “Outer Space”. Evoking a classic postwar blues feel is the title track, highlighted by exquisite play from guitarist and co-producer Kid Anderson. Co-producer Michael Peloquin delivers on the other side of the glass as well on harmonica and sax. Nice work!
Daryl Mosley Album: Long Days and Short Stories Label: Pinecastle Genre(s): Contemporary Bluegrass Posted By: Joe Ross

Review
Born and raised in Tennessee, Daryl Mosley is a fine bass player but he really makes his mark with his singing and songwriting. Since signing with Pinecastle Records in 2020, he has now released four album projects on that label. Already peaking at #18 on The Roots Music Report’s Top 50 Bluegrass Albums Chart, Long Days & Short Stories has 11 diverse tracks that run the gamut from bluegrass to gospel and Americana to country. Mosley surrounds himself with Danny Roberts (mandolin), Tony Wray (guitar/banjo), Jamie Harper (fiddle) and Sarah Davison (piano). Vocal harmonies are provided by Jaelee Roberts and Jeanette Williams.
As with his previous releases, IBMA Songwriter of the Year Mosley’s radio-friendly bluegrass fare has sweet, nostalgic hooks ”When the Good Old Days were New”) and spiritually-tinged gospel offerings (“I Can Pray” and

One of the most consistently creative artists in the world of New Age electronic instrumental music for the past four decades, Chuck Wild revives his Liquid Mind moniker for his fourth release of the 2020’s. Featuring 7 tracks that clock in at 57 minutes, the 2025 Liquid Mind album, Liquid Mind XV: In The Love follows the 2022 release of Liquid Mind XIV: Simplicity, the 2021 best-of compilation entitled Musical Healthcare and the 2020 release of Liquid Mind XIII: Mindfulness.
